Just 5 years after the Black Saturday bush fires that devastated Marysville in 2009, we’re overcome with joy at the sight of what was once rendered a black and barren landscape, now in its place lush greenery accompanied by the big smiles of Marysville residents.
While some gardens retained some plantings, most landscapes were tragically left desolate after the bush fires. Yet Marysville has achieved a great deal in its rebuild, with the main street almost fully populated with shops and cafes. Each garden showcases their owner’s passion and resilience to start again.
With the assistance of a few years of good rainfall, these burgeoning gardens are flourishing and beautiful once more. Though the gardens are young and still “works in progress”, residents are very proud to be able to say they have the prettiest town centre imaginable, a remarkable achievement after such a devastating event.
